We walked through the jungle, slowly but steadily. We sent an agile sea dog in front to warn us of any ambushes. The local folk had already shown us their hospitality.
“Cap’n, Cap’n!” The sea dog was running towards us, his hands and legs gory.
“Report immediately! Is there an ambush up there?”
“A fort!” announced the pirate, catching his breath. “There’s a fort to the north, Cap’n, with some of them bloody gnolls inside!”
“A fort? Here, in these godforsaken lands?” I said, astounded. “Probably an old Erathian outpost,” surmised Patris. “In the days of old king Gryphonheart, such forts were built on pretty much any habitable island.”
“Now that's interesting,” I said aloud. I put my hand on the sea dog’s shoulder: “You, wrap those wounds and rest awhile; you’ve done well. We’ll continue toward the fort and kindly ask the gnolls to find themselves another place to settle.”
Nous avancions lentement mais sûrement à travers la jungle. Nous avions envoyé un marin agile en éclaireur pour nous prévenir des embuscades et autres surprises. Les habitants nous avaient déjà fait preuve dmontré leur sens de l'hospitalité.

« Capi'taine  ! Capi'taine  ! » Le marin accourut vers moi. Ses bras et ses jambes étaient écorchés, mais il était si agité qu'il ignorait la douleur. Je trouvai cela suspect.

« Que se passe-t-il  ?! Répondez-moi ! Y a-t-il ! Allons-nous devant une embuscade devant nous  ? »

« Un fort », souffla le marin. « Là-bas, juste au nord, se trouve un vieux fort abandonné. J'y ai vu des satanés gnolls. »

« Où pourrait-il y avoir uUn fort d ? Dans ces trou perdu erres abandonnées ? » demandai-je, stupéfait.

« Ce doit être un ancien avant-poste érathien », suggéra Patris. « Du temps du vieux roi Cœur-de-Griffon, de telles fortifications étaient construites edifices étaient bâtis sur toutes les îles à peu près habitables. »

« Oh, vVoilà qui est intéressant  ! » « J’aidis-je en souriant et poséen posant la main sur l’épaule du marin. » Allez, fais une pause, et puis reparts en reconnaissance"Panses tes blessures et repose-toi, tu l'as bien mérité. Nous irallons versmarcher sur ce fort et gentiment demanderons aux gnolls de trouver un autre endroit où vivres'installer. "

"It has been many years since I became a Regnan pirate (here goes another unpleasant, tarnished word: pirate. I am definitely one, but me and those fellows without honor or good reason, whom Regna is teeming with? There is no more in common between us than between an eagle and a reeking buzzard!). Of course, I was curious to find out who inhabited this kingdom, one of the most unusual polities in all of Enroth.

The Empire of the Endless Ocean, I think that's what they call us. Sounds grand, doesn't it? The pirates themselves are a very diverse people. Many were born and raised on board, and they don't know any other life. One can say that a pirate in these parts is a hereditary profession. It's not easy for an outsider to become one of them, unless he can make an instant, strong impression on others. The most powerful, smart, and brave men among the pirates become captains and navigators. The rest make up their troops. At the same time, notably, there is a unique atmosphere of solidarity and brotherhood among them... at least when at sea. There is unwavering discipline and subordination on pirate ships. Even the Erathian Guards could envy that.

It all changes as soon as the pirates come ashore, though! They instantly turn into slovenly loafers. They drink and smoke liberally; most would never tell claret from port, yet still, they pride themselves in splurging on fine wines and tobacco imported from the colonies. They love gambling, fighting, and women. In other words, they savor everything that is off-limits on board. And yet, at the first call of their captain, they instantly pull themselves together, becoming a formidable force. These metamorphoses never cease to amaze me.

Each pirate is proficient in handling several types of weapons, usually rapiers, cutlasses, and pistols. The pistol is an achievement of the Bracadan alchemists. This fairly easy-to-manufacture weapon has not yet become widespread among the kingdoms of Antagarich. Jadame is another thing altogether... but I digress. In fact, the pistol is a miniature likeness of a ship's cannon. A skilled shooter can take down a knight, armored from the heels to the top of his head, with a single shot. I believe that the feudal lords of Erathia and Enroth are simply afraid of these weapons spreading among the commoners, and the Bracadans simply think they do not need them, as long as they have their magic. The Regnans, however, do not suffer from any silly phobias or prejudices; this wonderful invention sees the widest use there."

" Bien des années se sont écoulées depuis que je suis devenu pirate de Regna (un autre mot déplaisant, synonyme de pirate. J'en suis certes un, mais je n'ai pas plus en commun avec ces individus sans honneur et sans scrupules qui pullulent parmi les marins libres de Regna qu'un aigle et un charognard puant !). Naturellement, j'étais curieux de découvrir qui habitait l'un des royaumes les plus singuliers d'Enroth. L'Empire de l'Océan Infini – je crois que c'est ainsi qu'on nous appelle ailleurs. Ça sonne bien, n'est-ce pas ?

Les pirates forment un peuple très diversifié. Nombre d'entre eux sont nés et ont grandi sous les voiles, et ne connaissent pas d'autre mode de vie. On pourrait dire qu'être pirate dans ces contrées est une vocation héréditaire. Il n'est pas facile pour un étranger de le devenir, à moins de marquer immédiatement les esprits. Les plus puissants, les plus intelligents et les plus braves deviennent capitaines et navigateurs. Le reste, c'est leur armée. Une atmosphère d'unité et de fraternité sans précédent règne à bord… du moins en mer. Discipline stricte et hiérarchie rigoureuse sont de rigueur sur les navires pirates. Même les gardes d'Erath en seraient jaloux.

Et comme tout change dès que les pirates posent le pied à terre ! En un clin d'œil, ils se transforment en une bande de fainéants. Ils aiment boire et fumer, souvent incapables de distinguer le bordeaux du porto, et pourtant, ils dépensent des sommes astronomiques en vins et tabacs coûteux importés des colonies. Ils raffolent des jeux d'argent, des combats et des femmes. Autrement dit, ils profitent de tout ce qui est interdit à bord. Et pourtant, au premier ordre du capitaine, ils se ressaisissent instantanément et deviennent une force redoutable. Ces métamorphoses me fascinent toujours !

Chaque pirate maîtrise plusieurs types d'armes. Généralement, il s'agit de l'épée, du sabre et du pistolet. Le pistolet est l'œuvre des alchimistes brakadiens. Une arme relativement simple à fabriquer, mais qui ne s'est pourtant pas répandue dans les autres royaumes d'Antagarich. Le Jadam, c'est une autre histoire… mais passons. En gros, un pistolet est un canon naval miniature. Un tireur d'élite peut abattre un chevalier, entièrement en armure, d'une seule balle. Je pense que les seigneurs féodaux d'Érathia et d'Enroth craignent simplement que cette arme ne se répande parmi le peuple, et les Brakadiens n'en ont nul besoin : ils possèdent la magie, et cela leur suffit. Les Regnaniens, en revanche, ne sont pas réfractaires à cette arme et utilisent largement cette invention remarquable. "

This sea gate has been taken over by Regnan pirates. Unfortunately, there are too many cannons there, and it would be way too dangerous to try and attack the garrison from a ship. However, the pirates are willing to let you through if you pay them 5 gems.
Ce passage maritime est aux mains des pirates de Regna. Malheureusement, il est bardé de canons, rendant toute attaque de la garnison depuis un navire trop périlleuse. Cependant, les pirates vous laisseront passer en échange de 5 gemmes.
